Large Antique French Confit Pot from the Basque region in South-Western France.
Confit pots were used from the 18th Century to store duck meat in the French countryside. They were wrapped in cloth and buried in the earth to keep meat cool before refrigeration was an option.
---CONDITION---
This Confit Pot is in good antique condition commensurate with age with signs of wear and use. This includes some small chips around the rim and base, and losses to glazing (please see photos). Fantastic patina.
Confit pots in this condition are increasingly difficult to come by, even in France.
